Sweet & Sour Cabbage

Got an extra head of cabbage from the garden that you don't know what to do with. Add this tasty vegetable dish to the table tonight.


4 cups shredded cabbage 1 l
1/2 cup diced bacon 120 ml
3 tblsp flour 45 ml
1/4 cup honey 60 ml
1/4 cup vinegar 60 ml
1/2 cup water 120 ml
1 tsp chopped onion 5 ml

Preheat oven to 350 F - 180 C
  • Cook shredded cabbage in boiling water until tender (salt water to taste)
  • Drain water from cabbage and place in serving bowl.
  • Fry diced bacon until well done - Keep bacon fat in frying pan
  • Place fried bacon on top of cabbage.
  • Blend flour into bacon fat in frying pan
  • Add honey, vinegar, water and chopped onion to frying pan
  • Stir over medium heat until thickened
  • Pour over cabbage and bacon
  • Bake in oven for 10 minutes
  • Serve hot
